Loving Hope Messages
Recently my son, Elijah, was playing a board game with his grandpa (affectionately called “grandpap”). They were in our basement, and upstairs I intermittently heard Elijah exclaim, “I did it!” This was his first time to play the game, and he was experiencing the excitement that comes from new successes. The incident I have described is not an isolated case. Often this enthusiastic shout will resound throughout our house several times in one day. And we, of course, come running to see what new things Elijah has accomplished.
Have you experienced Elijah’s excitement? The year 2010 now lies behind us. Were there times when you achieved something that gave you a sense of satisfaction? As we face a new year, let us not forget these blessings. Surely the Lord has been good.
For those of us who recall more failures than successes in the past year, there is hope. Feelings of satisfaction can still be ours in the year that lies ahead. As Christians we transcend the limitations of “I” to the limitless possibilities of “We”. In John 14:12 Jesus says, “Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” We, who can do nothing on our own (John 15:5), are capable of incredible accomplishments as believers in Jesus Christ.
Indeed, as partners with the Omnipotent One limitless possibilities await us. He who is “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” is the One who “works in us” (Ephesians 3:20). May the year 2011 find us doing the impossible. May we be heard exclaiming to our Lord, “We did it!”
